Derbies

Part of the fun of Cub Scouting is taking a block of wood and turning it into a sporty race car, a crazy shark car, or a fast wedge car during the annual Pinewood Derby. Or, how about decorating and racing your own boat at the Raingutter Regatta.

Raingutter Regatta
In July, boat kits are passed out, beginning the process of sanding, shaping, and decorating to form the fastest boat for August’s Raingutter Regatta. The boys take turns, racing against the time rather than each other, to find the champions.

Pinewood Derby
In December, each boy of Pack 656 receives his car kit, which includes a block of wood, four axles (nails) and four tires. He is charged with turning this kit into a car to be raced at the Pinewood Derby in February.
